Optimal shipping logistics

The chair of operations research develops software for the shipping logistics in the automotive industry. A global coordinated and optimized logistic leads not only to savings but also to some hidden advantages.

  • Vehicles: >500.000 per year
  • Ports: ~500
  • Markets: ~150

Abstract

The goal of the deep sea shipping project is the development of maintenance of decision support software, which is able to automatically generate vessel schedules. The quality of a vessel schedule depends mostly on two factors:

  1. The mid term planning of vessel capacities to have an optimal utilization of vessel space
  2. The short term assignment of vehicles to vessels

Summary

  • Customized optimization softare
  • Mid term planning of vessel capacities
  • Short term assignment of produced vehicles to vessel based on available vessel space
  • International cooperation (5-day workshop in Aachen, two weeks trip to Ford in Dearborn)
